Lawn & Garden Tips for Early Summer

Posted on June 27th, 2017

Summer is here and boy is it beautiful out! Now that the warm sun is shining down, your lawn and plants will continue to grow, making your property as beautiful as ever. However, the maintenance you need to provide your lawn and garden now is different from when you first started back in early spring.

Implement Pest Management

While your landscape might be a part of your property, it’s still a part of nature and the surrounding environment. With that being said, your landscape will see its fair share of wildlife, insects, and bugs. While some are harmless, there will be a handful of pests that will harm and ruin your landscape. Ticks, termites, mosquitoes, ants, and beetle larvae are just a few pests you might need to consider getting pest management services for.

Keep on Weeding

Killing weeds is something you have to focus on during the early spring so they can be prevented from growing during the summer. However, if you have failed to do this (or your own weed control application failed you), it’s not too late! Since weeds are persistent and need to be tended to consistently, it’s best to use a weed control service that is knowledgeable in the types of weeds and lawns in your local area.

Best Planting Practices

  • Now that the warm weather is consistent, it’s time to bring any houseplants you have left to the outside. Make sure each houseplant receives adequate sunlight AND shade as these types of plants need a combination of both for optimal growth.
  • For those with multiple perennials in their garden, rather than filling any open gaps with mulch, opt for some interesting annuals to plant. This will allow your garden to look fuller, more vibrant, and allow you to try out different types of flowers to see which you like best!
  • Certain types of vegetables like lettuce, kale, turnips, and radishes are all known to grow quite fast. Sow these crops multiple times throughout the summer to maximize the amount of homegrown vegetables you can have.

With summer finally underway, make sure you’re doing a select few things for a healthy lawn and garden.
