Outdoor Holiday Decorating Don’ts

Posted on December 6th, 2017

The holiday season is officially here — which means, for some, it’s time for holiday decorations! The bright lights of blue, red, and green, will make your home look so festive! Although there aren’t any rules for decorating your property, there are some tips to save your landscaping in the process:

Holiday decorations can be beautiful to look at but, if done wrong, can damage your property.

Don’t Puncture Your Lawn

Adding those fun, festive illuminated holiday decorations to your display could damage your lawn in the process. When most homeowners decide to decorate their property for the holidays, there’s always a temptation to place your decorations directly into your lawn. Don’t do it! This can leave patches of dirt once the spring arrives. If you’re looking to still display your prized decorations, then it would be best to place them in the flowerbeds of your home. This will still make your home the most festive on the block and will preserve your luscious green lawn too!

Throw Away Old Lights

When decorating for the holidays, the best lights to use for your display are those that have LED bulbs. Switching over to LED light strands has three benefits, the first being that it’s safer for your bushes. Sometimes when you use older lights, they can overheat and may become a fire hazard. Another reason LED bulbs are better for your display is that they’re more efficient when you use them — and won’t raise your electric bill tremendously. Finally, the third benefit of using LED bulbs is that they won’t weigh down the branches on your plants — since they’re generally lightweight and aren’t prone to cause any damage.
