Easy Snow Removal Tips You Should Know

Posted on December 12th, 2017

Shoveling snow and removing ice is probably the most strenuous chore a homeowner has to do each winter. Rather than waiting until the snow has stopped, here are some snow removal tips to make the process easier.

Shoveling Snow is a tiresome job but snow removal is important to keep a safe property during the winterIce Melt

Before (and during) a snowstorm, spread a layer of ice melt on your driveway, walkways, and front steps. This will help prevent ice from forming in areas you commonly walk through. By doing so, you will lower your chances of taking a nasty spill. Opt for a contractor grade ice melt as this option is more powerful and fast-acting compared to brands you can buy in the store.

Shovel Frequently

There are some people that will wait towards the end of a snowstorm before they shovel their property. If you’ve ever shoveled 10 inches of snow from your property, then you know how tiring and stressful this can be. Instead, head outside for a quick shovel session every few hours. It’s easier to quickly push an inch or two of snow than it is to shovel a foot’s worth of snow.

Snow Placement

When shoveling the snow from your driveway, think about where you’re placing the excess snow. Avoid creating large snow piles as this can cause severe damage to surrounding shrubs, plants, or your lawn. Instead, place each shovel of snow in a different location. You also need to make sure that snow is removed from any walkways as this snow can melt and refreeze which can damage and crack it.

Removing snow and ice is a tiring and tedious chore that needs to be done, but there are ways to make it easier for yourself.
