Artificial grass is ‘tufted’ in the same way in which carpets are made. It consists of three main ingredients: Polyethylene, Polypropylene, and Nylon. These synthetic materials are UV ray-resistant and resistant to wear and tear – while also being soft to the touch.

The right synthetic turf paint for the surface of your artificial grass is acrylic paint. Let’s say you need to mark out the lines of a sports field: using white acrylic paint will do the job. A product like PAINT OFF is a paint remover that will get rid of the lines after a bit of a soak and a scrub should you wish to remove the markings at some stage.
One of the downsides that we haven’t yet mentioned is the inescapable fact that synthetic grass can get super hot in summer. Sure, you can hose down your ‘astroturf’ to keep it cool – but this will negate the savings that you’re making on your water bill.
Another consideration when it comes to deciding on whether artificial grass is for you is to look at the potential lawn space that you have and perhaps “hedge” your bets by using synthetic turf in some places and real grass in others. If there’s an easily manageable area of grass where the kids and pets like to play, keep it. If there’s an indoor garage that could double up as a putting green, go for it!
