The Benefits of Mulching Your Lawn Clippings

Posted on September 16th, 2015

Did you know that when you bag and throw away your lawn clippings you’re actually throwing away a valuable lawn care resource? Instead, mulch, or mix grass clippings back into the soil to make the most out of your lawn mowing maintenance. The point is, if you’re not mulching, you’re missing out, and we’re here to tell you why.

Grass Clippings

It’s bonus fertilizer, for FREE! Grass clippings are a great source of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium nutrients that your lawn needs to keep on growing. Do you know what else contains these nutrients? Fertilizer – only that, you have to pay for! When you mulch, you’re taking advantage of the natural fertilization properties of grass clippings, and providing as much as ⅓ of the annual fertilizer required to perpetuate a lush, green lawn.

It’s a quicker, easier option. Lawn care can be time-consuming, so why overlook an option to cut down on yard work while still maintaining the same, if not better, results? Imagine if you didn’t have to spend all of that time emptying the lawn mower, bagging clippings, and carrying them out to the curb. It’s a no-brainer!

Are there times when bagging is more beneficial? Yes, there are actually a few instances where mulching is not recommended. If you notice that your lawn appears to be diseased or if you’ve recently applied herbicide or pesticides to your grass, bagging is the way to go.

Though mulching can save you valuable time and money, caring for your lawn is still a big job to tackle. If you’re ready to pass the lawn care torch to the pros, Turf Unlimited is here to grab it! From mowing and fertilizing, to grub prevention and shrub care, there’s no landscape maintenance task that we’re not equipped to handle.
