4 Types of High Maintenance Flowers

Posted on August 2nd, 2017

Roses are red, violets are blue, and high maintenance gardens are a dream come true! Starting a garden can be a tricky task for those who are new to the craft. The possibilities for plants can be endless, with many beautiful choices roaming the aisles of home and garden store. However, for those who like a challenge, there are some flowers that provide beautiful blooms at the cost of some weekly TLC. If you’re up for an adventure, here are some high maintenance flowers you should choose:

Lilies

Deemed to be the most timeless flowers under the sun, these beauties need some your utmost attention when moving into your soil. Unlike most flowers, lilies need to be watered freely and the soil at their roots must be kept moist constantly. If you neglect lilies for a few days, and rain is absent from the forecast, then they will wilt to their untimely death.

Dahlias

With a beautiful deep bloom, dahlias rock the most stunning complexion on any landscape. Usually in hues of dark pink and purple, these flowers are truly a statement. When taking care of Dahlias, it’s pertinent to plant these showstoppers in moderately warm soil and place them in direct sunlight. In addition, Dahlias can’t be covered in mulch like other flowers, since their 8-week growth will come to a screeching halt.

Roses

Usually gifted under romantic circumstances, roses are truly a gift to the soil of any garden. Typically grown in a shade of a passionate red, these photogenic wonders must obtain at least six hours of sunlight daily. When it comes to watering roses, their roots must be watered twice a week to maximize their potential growth. It may seem strenuous, but it the final product will make it worth it.

Tulips

Owning up to the most interesting shape in the floral community, tulips are known for their bright punches of yellow and red. When planting tulips, it’s essential to nestle them in the soil during the fall. Most importantly: tulips must not be watered daily, unless rain is scarce. Taking care of tulips is a bit simpler on the maintenance spectrum, but it’s important to monitor their growing progress.
